Caption Formulas for Before and After Posts That Get Saved and Shared

The image does the heavy lifting in a before/after post. The caption's job is to add the one detail the image cannot show: time, effort, cost or method. These five structures do that in a line or two.

1. The time stamp

State the gap. "Day 1 vs week 12." "Three weekends." Time is the most believable context and the easiest to write.

2. The constraint

Say what stayed the same. "Same light, same lens, no filter." It pre-empts the skeptic in the comments and signals honesty.

3. The method in one line

One habit, one product or one decision. "Walked 8k steps every day." "Swapped the overhead light for two lamps." People save posts that tell them what to do.

4. The cost

Money or effort. "Under $200 and a Saturday." Works especially well for home and DIY content.

5. The question

End with a question that only the after image can answer. "Which one would you book?" It moves comments without begging for them.

Generating variations

Write one caption in each structure, then produce three variations per platform, since LinkedIn wants more context and TikTok wants less. An AI writing app such as GenAI – AI Chatbot does this in a minute if you paste the five lines and ask for platform-specific versions; the caption box under the photo maker export has starter lines for common use cases.
